Can’t Miss Houston Experiences in May
Planning a trip to Houston, Texas this May? Here are 5 experiences you won’t want to miss out on!
5. Keels and Wheels Concours d’Elegance
Want to get a little fancy and see how the other half live? From May 2nd – 4th, the Lakewood Yacht Club will be hosting the Keels and Wheels Concours d’Elegance. It’s a classic car and vintage wooden boat show. During this even you’ll get to see some of the coolest vehicles and boats out there. It’s bound to be a great weekend on the lake! Tickets are $25 before the event, or $35 at the door.
4. Waugh Bridge Bat Colony Tour
Houston’s gorgeous Buffalo Bayou is home to the incredible Waugh Bridge Bat Colony. The bridge is home to a colony of almost 300,000 Mexican Free-Tailed Bats. At dusk, they leave the bridge en masse to forge for food. On May 10th and May 24th, you can take a Pontoon Boat tour on the Bayou to see the bats emerge from the bridge and go out into the night. While viewing this amazing sight, you’ll also learn a little bit about why bats are so important to the environment, and what you can do to help protect them.
3. Wet N’ Wild Splash Town
May is a great time to visit Wet N’ Wild Splash town, because the weather has warmed up but the kids are still in school, so you’ll have the water park to yourself. The park has just undergone extensive renovations and has a new raft ride, the Big Kahuna! Other can’t miss rides are the Brain Drain and the Texas Freefall.
2. Carnival Houston
Can’t make it to Rio or Venice? No problem, you can celebrate Carnival in Houston on May 24th, over the Memorial Day long weekend! Houston’s Carnival celebrates the diversity of the country through all of the people who have immigrated to America over the years. The Carnival has a strong Caribbean influence so during the big parade, you’re likely to hear lots of Steele Drums. You’ll also spot many bright and barely-there costumes adorned with many feathers. In addition to the Parade and music, there is tons of great food on offer. Early Bird tickets are available for $10!
1. Art Car Parade
The 27th annual Houston Art Car Parade will be held this May. It’s the largest art car parade in the world, and one of Houston’s biggest events. It’s an amazing weekend for both art and auto lovers. The night before the parade, May 9th, is The Legendary Car Art Ball. The attendees seem to put as much effort into their attire as they do to their cars. The parade is the main event, and it will take place on Saturday May 10th, following 3 main routes around Houston. The weekend wraps up with an Awards Brunch where the top car of the year will be named.
