Spending a Night on the Town in Houston, Texas

While the word “nightlife” may conjure up visions of bars and clubs, there is plenty more to see and do in the evening hours.

If you’re in town on Sundays during football season, consider picking up a ticket to catch the Houston Texans play at Reliant Stadium. There’s nothing in the world quite like a live football game!

Broadway Across America brings to Houston some of the best theater shows in the world. The plays brought here are the best of the best from New York’s Broadway and London’s West End theaters, so you know you’re in for a good show! Houston also has great Opera and Ballet companies that put on world-class performances. For the more budget conscious theater-goer, in summer months, the Theatre Under The Stars puts on free performances at the Miller Outdoor Theater.

If live music is what you’re into, most Saturday Nights, the iconic music store Cactus Music has local talent perform. Come on a good night, and you might just get to see Houston’s best musicians in action, before they make it big! Best of all, performances at Cactus Music are free!  Many bars also have live music nights, the bars and clubs of Washington Avenue often host local performers.

In the mood for a drink? If you head to La Carafe, you can enjoy a little piece of history with your beverage. La Carafe is the oldest commercial building in Houston that’s still in use! Most people come for the wine and classic Jukebox, but some come to ghost hunt, many people claim the building is haunted!

Want to dance the night away? One of Houston’s hottest spots is Scott Gertner’s Sky Bar. The night club is located in a Penthouse, so be sure to take a break from the dance floor to check out the amazing skyline views of the city.

Feel like grabbing a late-night bite? Many of Houston’s restaurants are open until 2am or later on weekends! A few places are even open 24 Hours, like Katz’s Deli. Katz’s is the perfect spot for a late-night nosh. If you’re really hungry, go for the pastrami sandwich.

Is an assignment or project keeping you up late? Join like minded workers and students, and get your caffeine fix at Down House, a coffee shop located in the Heights that hosts late hours.
