5 Coastal Drives to Enjoy on World Oceans Day

5 Coastal Drives to Enjoy on World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day is a yearly observation that honors the oceans of the world, while celebrating the products the ocean provides (think seafood, and marine life for aquariums, pets, and more), the sea lines it provides for international trade, as well as taking the time to appreciate its natural value and beauty.

On June 8, hit the road in celebration of World Oceans Day and enjoy some of the most scenic ocean drives in the country.

1) California’s Pacific Coast Highway.

One of the most famous coastal drives, California’s Highway One is the ultimate way to explore the beauty of the Pacific coastline. Head from San Francisco to LA, weaving your way through natural gems like Big Sur, the many surf towns, and breathtaking views. Don’t miss Pismo Beach!

2) Scenic Highway 30A, Florida.

Trailing nearly 30-miles along the Gulf of Mexico coastline in Northwest Florida’s Walton County, the Scenic Highway 30A is an excellent route for beautiful sights and time by the ocean. Enjoy white sand beaches and beautiful coastal dune lakes. Don’t miss Grayton Beach State Park, Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, or The Beaches of South Walton!

3) Cape May County Ocean Drive, New Jersey.

The road from Cape May to Strathmere on the New Jersey Coast is known as the Cape May Ocean Drive. It passes through barrier islands off the Jersey shore, and offers plenty of beautiful coastal views in addition to opportunities to stop and enjoy the ocean.

4) US 1, Florida Keys.

An All American road encompassing one of the most scenic seaside routes, the US 1 runs between the beach and Interstate 95 along Florida’s east coast. Enjoy over 2,300-miles of highway stretching between Fort Kent, ME, and Key West, FL, as well as all the neon signs, shops, motels, and incredible views along the way.

5) Highway 101, Oregon.

With over 360-miles of coastline road, Oregon’s Highway 101 winds down the Oregon coast from the Columbia River to the California border. It passes through old growth forests, Oswald West State Park, and several iconic bridges, and offers travelers plenty of stunning views, beaches, and more.
