1. Route 66.

Of course, we couldn’t have a ‘best of’ list without including the iconic Route 66 – one of America’s original highways and also one of the most scenic roads in the country. Running from Chicago, Illinois, to the shores of the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica, California, there’s an incredible amount of things to see and do along the way. A well loved and well traveled route, Route 66 is an absolute must-see.

2. Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Established in the 1920s as an initiative to get more people out exploring the national parks, the Going-to-the-Sun Road is an incredible 50-mile drive across Montana’s Glacier National Park. The road was intentionally built to show off the best vistas, views, and scenery, making the journey a truly breathtaking experience.

3. Great River Road.

Winding along the Mississippi River, the Great River Road is chock-full of roller-coaster-like hills and steep canyons that will entertain everyone in the car. A collection of state and local roads through Minnesota to Louisiana, you can travel through ten states on this route, making plenty of stops along the way.

4. Overseas Highway.

Also known as the US 1 in the Florida Keys, the Overseas Highway runs from Miami to Key West, encompassing over 150-miles, multiple islands, and a 7-mile long bridge. One of the most scenic drives in Florida, road trippers will enjoy stunning scenery, including lighthouses, coral reefs, ocean views, and plenty of bridges.

5. The Million Dollar Highway.

Stretching from New Mexico to Colorado, the Million Dollar Highway is one of the designated New Mexico Scenic Byways. One of the highest roads in the country, this route spends most of its time well above the tree line offering plenty of incredible sights. Going between the historic gold-mining camps of Silverton and Ouray, the Million Dollar Highway is at the very center of the incredible San Juan Skyway.

6. Skyline Drive.

Running the length of the Shenandoah National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the Skyline Drive boasts over 100-miles of panoramic views along the mountains and overlooking the stunning Shenandoah Valley. Be sure to stop along the many overlooks throughout the drive, and keep your eyes peeled for plenty of wildlife along the way.
