Whether you stay in Denver or Colorado Springs, the festivities in Commerce City for Memorial Day should top your to-do list. Our Denver InTown Suites is only 10 miles away but even visitors staying an hour south in Colorado Springs will find this memorial ceremony and parade worth the drive. The celebration brings thousands of visitors every year, so arrive early on Monday, May 29th to get a good seat. The ceremony begins at 8:45 a.m. and the parade follows at 9:30 a.m. After the procession, head to the Veterans Memorial Park for live music, food trucks, and vendor booths.

There are many other things to do during Memorial Day weekend in Denver and Colorado Springs before the main event on Monday in Commerce City. The warmer weather and sunny days excite visitors and locals alike because this is the time of year when winter is called off for good and everything comes alive again. Events in Denver Memorial Day Weekend 2023

The city of Denver offers such a great mix of urban and natural activities that anyone can be entertained during a long stay over the holiday weekend. The outdoor areas and hiking trails are always enjoyable for families, couples, and nature lovers, and this city offers loads of museums, niche restaurants, and hidden gems to discover during an extended stay. When you’re in Denver for Memorial Day weekend this year, check out these two events:

Denver Arts Festival

This free festival takes place on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, 2023. The displays will feature works from 140 artists from Colorado and around the nation. A variety of food, plus wine and other adult beverages will be available. Children will enjoy creating their own works of art in the Kids’ Art Zone. The 24th Denver Arts Festival will take place at Central Park’s Conservatory Green Neighborhood, within 15 or 20 minutes of our extended-stay hotels in the city.

Denver BBQ Festival

The BBQ Festival is a Denver Memorial Day event that delights everyone from the occasional griller to the BBQ connoisseur. This festival will feature the country’s top pitmasters slow-smoking 30,000 pounds of meat over two days—May 27th and 28th. While general admission is free, it does not include food or drinks, but there are options for all-you-can-eat tickets. Live music, BBQ demonstrations, and a ribs-eating competition are all on the event schedule. The Empower Field at Mile High hosts this event, and it is within 15 miles of any Denver InTown Suites property.

Events in Colorado Springs Memorial Day Weekend 2023

Travelers headed to Colorado Springs for Memorial Day weekend will find visiting nature parks, veterans monuments, and military museums fitting things to do during this patriotic holiday. Memorial Park is another place to add to your itinerary, and while many people know this park for its fireworks displays on July 4th, it is also home to an impressive memorial for veterans. The installation includes dedications for every branch of service, plus a Vietnam Veterans wall. There are benches to sit on and many paths to walk as you pay your respects. During the weekend of the holiday itself, check out one or both of these Memorial Day events in Colorado Springs:

Territory Days

Memorial Day weekend in Colorado Springs wouldn’t be complete without attending Territory Days, the state’s largest street fair. It’s held in the Old Colorado City neighborhood on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Monday until 6:00 p.m. Admission is free and the three-day fair features food, train rides, vendor demonstrations, a kids’ zone, gold panning, live music, and a mechanical bull. This beloved Memorial Day event in Colorado Springs is less than three miles from InTown Suites.

Garden of the Gods

Summer hours begin at Garden of the Gods Nature Center in Colorado Springs on Memorial Day weekend, so you can linger longer inside at the exhibits. The park trails also stay open late so you can meander until the evening to catch a fabulous sunset. Like the Nature Center, the 15 miles of trails in the park are free for everyone to enjoy. The area will be bustling with visitors before Memorial Day, so after the short eight-mile drive from InTown Suites, catch the summer shuttle to the various attractions. Events include yoga in the garden and a watercolor class for adults, and a Jr. Ranger activity for kids.
