Fort Worth Zoo

Founded in 1909, Fort Worth Zoo was small with less than 10 animals living on the property. Today, the zoo has grown to over 7,000 animals. Fort Worth Zoo has always been owned and operated by the City of Fort Worth and through fundraising have been able to grow and purchase more animals throughout the years.

The Fort Worth Zoo prides itself on its conservation efforts, spending over 9.8 million dollars for education, conservation and animal care all over the world. They believe in the natural mental and physical health of all their animals and also participate in an Animal Enrichment Program. The program allows the zoo to care for and enhance the care and surroundings of all their animals, positively affecting their natural behavior.

All types of birds, mammals, fish, invertebrates, reptiles, and amphibians make up the Fort Worth Zoo. You can see exotic animals like the Chilean Flamingo, a variety of Macaws, Jaguar, Golden-headed Lion Tamarin, Ghost Ornamental Tarantula, Panamanian Golden Frog, Pan’s Box Turtle, and so much more!

The Fort Worth Zoo also has 10 exhibits for you and your family to explore.

Visit the African Savanna exhibit, 10 acres with beautiful African animals like giraffes, zebras, and lions. They even have an underwater viewing area where you can see one of Africa’s Big 5, the hippopotamus!

Take a trip to the Far East at the Asian Falls exhibit. Here you will experience the exotic animals of Asia like the Malayan tigers, exotic birds, and a family of meerkats.

Make the Fort Worth Zoo an all day trip! They have plenty of on-site dining and snack options for you to enjoy. Grab a burger at the Zoo Creek Cafe or sit down for some Texas BBQ at the Bluebonnet Cafe. If you just need something to hold you over in between meals stop by a Splash Snack, Penguin Snack, or Kona Ice.
