Though the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth has had many names throughout its history it remains the oldest museum in Texas. Founded in 1892 by 25 women the first piece of art wasn’t acquired for the museum until 1904. In 1909, the museum held its first exhibition which included 45 contemporary American paintings. Today the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is the home of over 3,000 post-WWII art in all mediums and varieties. The styles range anywhere from Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism to Neo-Expressionism and Pop; coming from all over the world.

The building itself is a work of art by Japanese architect Tadao Ando and was deemed “World’s Most Beautiful Art Museums” by Travel + Leisure magazine.

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth has its own permanent collection and the largest collection of post-war art. The museum also welcomes temporary exhibitions and installments. Some of the permanent collection includes pieces like Warhol’s Twenty-Five Colored Marilyns, Pollock’s Number 5, Picasso’s Femme couchée lisant, Lichtenstein’s Mr. Bellamy, and so many others! Past Exhibitions include The Modern Lights, Hiroshi Sugimoto: End of Time, and Lucian Freud: Portraits –just to name a few.

This museum also has an on-site restaurant and shop. Café Modern is a restaurant with limited brunch, lunch and dinner hours. Their menus change seasonally but are always made with fresh ingredients and completely from scratch. Check out more about Café Modern here.   • Tuesday – 10 am–5 pm (until 7 pm Feb-Apr, Jun-Jul, Sep-Nov)
  • Wednesday – 10 am–5 pm
  • Thursday – 10 am–5 pm
  • Friday – 10 am–8 pm
  • Saturday – 10 am–5 pm
  • Sunday – 10 am–5 pm

The cost of admission to the Modern Art Museum are as follows:

  • General Admission (age 18+) $16
  • Seniors (age 60+) $12
  • Students (with ID) $10
  • Under 18 years of age Free
