The Hermitage

If you really want the history of Nashville a great place to start is at Andrew Jackson’s home, The Hermitage. The Hermitage is one of best historical landmarks near one of our extended stay hotels in Nashville, TN.

Visiting The Hermitage isn’t just stepping inside the home of “The People’s President,” it’s exploring and taking in the history of this 1,000+ acre property. There is so much to see and learn at the home of Andrew Jackson.

The Hermitage was purchased by Andrew Jackson for him and his wife in 1804. It was originally a 425-acre farm with an 8-room mansion. In 1831, the Hermitage underwent major reconstruction when Jackson hired architect David Morrison to redesign a 13-room mansion. Shortly after the renovations, the house was severely damaged by a fire. The Hermitage mansion was once again renovated but with a Greek-style added to the exterior. Today, the mansion has been carefully restored with most of Jackson’s original belongings and open to visitors from all over the nation.

You can take a guided or self-guided tour of the grounds, gardens, mansion, the Hermitage exhibits, and the Jackson’s tombs. Throughout the tour, you will learn the history not only about Andrew Jackson but about the Civil War and slavery. They even have Hermitage Ghost tours available!

The Hermitage Ghost tour is led in the evening as your guide will take you through the mansion and grounds with only the light from a lantern. Here you’ll hear untold stories and even learn about the Bell Witch!

While on your visit to this historical landmark feel free to bring your own packed lunch or stop by the snack cart. The Hermitage does feature an on-site restaurant called The Kitchen Cabinet Cafe. Sit down to enjoy southern style picnic foods or reserve boxed lunches from the cafe for your group.

The Hermitage is just a short drive from any of our Intown Suites Nashville locations!
