Dallas World Aquarium

The aquarium was opened to the public in 1992 and accredited by the Association for Zoos and Aquariums in 1997. What makes Dallas World Aquarium unique is that it’s not only home to aquatic life, but it’s also home to some amazing animal species as well.

Dallas World Aquarium has five exhibits that include, Mundo Maya, Orinoco, South Africa, Borneo, and the aquarium.

At the Mundo Maya exhibit, you will experience animals and sea life that are indigenous to Mexico and Central South America. This exhibits features a beautiful 400,000-gallon walk-through tank, filled with sharks, stingrays, and Yucatan Peninsula sea turtles. You’ll also get to see other animals like the ocelots, flamingos, and spectacled owl in the Mundo Maya exhibit.

In the Orinoco, another South American exhibit, you’ll explore the bio-diversity that is a key factor to South America’s ecosystem, specifically the South American rainforest. Here you will meet Hoffman’s two-toed sloth, the many-banded aracari, red-backed bearded saki, and more!

The Aquarium exhibit is a colorful array of Indo-Pacific fish, coral, and kelp. This 20,000-gallon walk-through tank is home to fish like the Moorish idol, zebra angelfish, pot-bellied seahorse, and blackeye goby.

In the South Africa exhibit, you will find some of the brightest and most unusual looking amphibians, reptiles, and birds. Feast your eyes on a tomato frog, panther chameleon, and great blue turaco!

Take a trip down under when you visit the Borneo exhibit! Here you will see Australian birds-a-plenty like the shoebill stork, palm cockatoo, and Victoria crowned pigeon.

Take a break from the exhibits and dine at one of the Dallas World Aquarium’s three on-site restaurants. Cuisines from all around the world are featured at the Eighteen-O-One restaurant like Indonesian lumpia, shrimp on the barbie, Fijian snapper, and more! Cafe Maya has a South American flare and serves up items like chimichangas, Yucatan guacamole, and traditional ceviche. For quick bites stop by the Jungle Cafe. Here you can grab nachos, sandwiches, and other finger foods.

The Dallas World Aquarium is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm and closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
