A Weekend in Jackson Mississippi

A Weekend in Jackson Mississippi

Traveling on business to Jackson Mississippi? Hopefully, you’ll have the weekend to enjoy this incredible Southern city. While a weekend isn’t enough to see and do everything in Jackson, we’ve picked out some of the highlights that you shouldn’t miss. These suggestions will give you a true taste of the city has to offer.

1. The Mississippi State Capitol
We highly a stop by the Mississippi State Capitol building. While tours are only given on weekdays, we think it’s worth a visit to snap some photos of one of the most beautiful buildings in the state.

2. Fondren District
Shopping in one of the city’s newest hotspots, the Fondren District. This area of Jackson is full of local shops, antique stores, gourmet food shops and restaurants. After an afternoon of shopping here, we recommend stopping at one of the bakeries in the district and picking up a couple of pastries to take back to your room for a late-night snack, or for the next morning’s breakfast.

3. Jackson Zoo
Get up close and personal with over 750 animals at the always entertaining Jackson Zoo. You’ll come face to face with animals from all over the world including giraffes, endangered white rhinos and the human-like orangutans. This is the perfect place to spend a sunny, Sunday afternoon.

4. The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame
Many of the great players in American sports history have come from Mississippi, so it’s no wonder that the museum dedicated to the players is a must see.  While the Sports Hall of Fame covers all types of sports, their Baseball section is truly spectacular. There are lots of interactive exhibits to keep you busy for an afternoon. The entrance fee is a steal at only $5.

5. Hal and Mal’s
On weekends at Hal and Mal’s you can get both dinner and a show. First head to the restaurant section of the building for delicious, Southern-style comfort food. They serve up mouth-watering po’ boys, and chicken fried steak among other items. After dinner, one of their other rooms is almost guaranteed to be putting on a live musical performance. The bands change from week to week, but a good time is always had.
