Thanksgiving Tree Lighting
As night falls on Thanksgiving, there will be the annual lighting of one of the city’s biggest and brightest Christmas Tree, at Macy’s at the Lenox Square Mall. The tree lighting always draws a crowd, and it truly marks the beginning of the Christmas season in Atlanta.
Thanksgiving Dinner
Looking for a place to tuck into some turkey before or after the tree lighting? Hudson Grille will be serving a delicious three-course Thanksgiving Dinner at all five of their Atlanta restaurants, we’re regulars at their Sandy Springs location. At Hudson Grille, you can have a turkey dinner with all the fixings, for only $19.95 a person, and best of all, it’s all-you-can-eat!
Holiday Light Spectacular Gift of Lights
One of the holiday events that we look forward to most over Christmas is the incredible drive through the Christmas Light Park. What makes this drive through special, compared with your regular neighborhood to see Christmas lights? This drive takes place at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, and part of the route is on the race track! How many people get to say they’ve driven on a professional race track? The drive takes place nightly until January 3rd.
Ice Skating
Lace-up your skates and enjoy a skate amidst a winter wonderland at the rink in Centennial Olympic Park. Don’t fret if you didn’t pack your skates, a pair is included as part of the admission fee of $12. Even if you don’t skate, a trip to Centennial Park is truly worthwhile to see all of the lights and decorations.
The Nutcracker
The Nutcracker is the first introduction many of us have to classical music as children. Relive some of your favorite moments and songs by taking in a show. There are multiple Nutcracker performances to choose from in Atlanta, depending on what suits your interests and timetable. One that we recommend is the show at the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center, presented by the Northeast Atlanta Ballet.
New Year’s Eve
New York City may have its Ball Drop, but in Atlanta, it’s all about the Peach Drop. At midnight a giant peach will be dropped at the Underground Atlanta, after an all day, family-friendly festival. After the clock strikes twelve, and the peach has dropped, there will be an impressive fireworks display. For those of you looking to party, the festivities keep going until 4am.
