Groundhog Day: 5 Ways to Prepare for What Punxsutawney Phil Has in Store!

Groundhog Day: 5 Ways to Prepare for What Punxsutawney Phil Has in Store!

Groundhog Day is right around the corner, and all of us at InTown Suites are excited to find out if we’ll be seeing an early spring or six more weeks of winter. We’ll know for sure on February 2nd, but just to be safe, we’re planning ahead. If Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow and scurries back in his hole, we want you to be ready with all sorts of great ways for spending a few extra weeks of winter. Who knows, with so much to do, you might not even mind a bit more snow!

READ A GOOD BOOK
Snow or cold weather is a great excuse to stay indoors, especially if it means you can kick your feet up and relax with a good book. From quick reads to epic novels, biographies to romances and action/adventures, there are endless books to read, either at the bookstore or the local library. While you’re at the library, keep your eyes peeled for book clubs, author nights, and more special events that are going on during the winter. Activities like these are also a great way to fill your calendar before spring has sprung.

VISIT LOCAL MUSEUMS
There’s a whole world of knowledge waiting for you to discover in local museums. Whether you’re an art lover, fascinated by natural history, or can spend hours learning about new and interesting subjects, a trip to a local museum is a great way to spend a day. And the good news is that many InTown Suites locations are within a few miles of interesting museums and historical sites, making them easy to access. Remember, many museums offer “Pay What You Can” nights that allow you to enjoy everything they have to offer while saving money.

GET ORGANIZED
Winter weather offers many of us the perfect excuse to bunker down and start getting organized. Whether that means creating a budget, setting new goals for the rest of the year, or simply tidying up your space to make it easier to find your favorite stuff, getting organized has serious benefits—including increased productivity, reducing clutter, and saving money. We recently wrote an entire blog post about getting organized in 2018, which you should check out for useful tips and insight on how tidying up can improve your life.

GO ON A WINTER HIKE
If you’re someone who is excited at the idea of a few extra weeks of winter, then this is the perfect time to get out in nature for an invigorating hike. Typically, trails are less crowded in the winter, and you definitely won’t have to worry about mosquitos and other bugs buzzing around. Plus, getting out on the trails during the winter season is a great way bask in the winter sunlight, which can help your body produce the fantastic mood-boosting vitamin D. Beyond all this, you’ll have an opportunity to see many beautiful spots from a new perspective—blanketed in snow—giving you memories to last through the winter and beyond.

LEARN TO COOK SOMETHING NEW
Winter is the perfect time to brush up on your cooking skills, and with fully-equipped kitchens—complete with a two-burner stovetop, microwave, and full-size fridge in each of our suites, you’ll have everything you need to practice your culinary skills.
