How to See the Best of Pittsburgh on a Budget

How to See the Best of Pittsburgh on a Budget

Experiencing the best of Pittsburgh doesn’t mean breaking the bank. In fact, there are plenty of ways to stick to your budget while exploring this beautiful city in western Pennsylvania, including free attractions and things to do, cheap eats, cost-effective transit options, and much more.

Get the most out of your entertainment budget when you visit Pittsburgh with these helpful cost-saving travel tips.

Seek out free & low-cost entertainment.

1) Start your day with a little exercise and some fresh air in the beloved Schenley Park, encompassing 456 acres of trails, woods, and attractions including a skating rink, golf, playgrounds, and so much more.

2) Meander through the beautiful market square — a spot for dining, shopping, people-watching, live music, and other special events. Grab a coffee or some lunch and marvel at this hub of activity.

3) On Friday nights, take advantage of half price admission to the largest museum in the country dedicated to a single artist: The Andy Warhol Museum! Visit between 5pm-10pm for $10 entry for adults, and $5 for children.

Take advantage of free services & amenities.

1) Enjoy two hours of complimentary WiFi anywhere downtown Pittsburgh — the perfect opportunity to catch up on email, research dining options, or surf the web.

2) Hop on the subway (known locally as the “T”) for a free ride within the Golden Triangle. Get on and off at key downtown stops, including Wood Street Station, US Steel Tower, First Avenue, and Gateway.

3) Have a car with you? No problem. On Sundays enjoy free downtown street parking!

Enjoy the city’s cheap eats.

Dining out on a budget doesn’t have to mean hitting the drive-thru in Pittsburgh. Quite the opposite, as there are plenty of restaurants with delicious menu options that’ll cost you less than $10 for a memorable dining experience.

1) Head to Shadyside for a true taste of thai at the ever-popular Noodlehead. Take your pick from delectable dishes like pork belly steamed buns ($6), noodle soups ($6), pad thai ($9), and much more. Heads up, this is a cash-only restaurant, but you’re welcome to BYOB with no corkage fees!

2) Have a craving for something sweet? Head to Waffallonia in Squirrel Hill for sugar waffles topped with whipped cream and fruit, coffee, ice cream, and other indulgences.

3) For a beer and some pub food, hit up D’s Six Pax & Dogz in Regent Square. Enjoy daily specials, like a large one-topping pizza for $10 on Tuesdays, and hot dog and fries for $6 on Wednesdays.
