Visit Minneapolis On a Budget

Visit Minneapolis On a Budget

The largest city in the state of Minnesota, Minneapolis is a fantastic place to visit. A city known to be abundantly rich in water (there are 20 lakes and wetlands, the Mississippi River, creeks, and more), Minneapolis is a truly beautiful city.

If you’re planning a trip to Minneapolis and are looking for ways to keep costs in check, you’ve come to the right place. Keep reading to find out how we recommend touring the city without blowing the budget.

Accommodations

If you’re willing to stay outside the downtown core, finding affordable accommodations in Minneapolis is easy! At InTown Suites, we have two properties in the Metro Minneapolis area, including Burnsville and Coon Rapids.

Our prices start at just $279.99 for the week!

Getting Around

To save big on your trip budget, don’t rely solely on taxis to get around the city. Walking is of course a great option to take in more of the sights and sounds, but for maximum efficiency, we recommend taking advantage of the Minneapolis Metro Transit system.

Choose from either the bus routes or the trains, and take advantage of a daily pass that provides 24 hours of unlimited rides on all buses and metro lines for only $6.

For help in determining how to get from one location to another, use the Metro Transit trip planner tool.

Cheap Eats

You won’t go hungry in Minneapolis – that much we know for sure! Roam around the city to discover a wealth of delicious, cheap eats inspired by tastes from around the globe.

  1. For a taste of Italy, check out Fat Lorenzo’s – an award-winning, nationally recognized locally owned Twin Cities favorite. Stop in for famous pizza, pasta, hoagies, and gelato.
  2. Enjoy fresh Vietnamese dishes at the lovely Lotus To Go Go for a filling, cheap lunch (most entrees and lunch items are under $10).
  3. Devour one of the best burgers in the city at the home of the original Jucy Lucy, Matt’s Bar. A Minneapolis landmark, a pint and a burger at Matt’s is a must. You’ll love the relaxed atmosphere and the tasty treats!
  4. Get your fill of local, organic goodness – with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options – at the lovely Birchwood Cafe. Birchwood offers fresh, unique food with a down-home appeal that’s sure to please.

Attractions

As with any city that’s new to you, it’s a great idea to start your explorations simply by walking around! Get out for an adventure and see what there is to see – it’ll help you become more familiar with the city, as well as identify a few of your own ‘must-see’ destinations you can work into the rest of your trip.

While on your walk, be sure to check out some of Minneapolis’ notable parks, including city gems like Gold Medal Park and Minnehaha Park.

We also recommend taking in a few of the city’s well known landmarks, including the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Target Field, the Riverview Theater and the Mill City Museum.
